I am a science geek living in Irvine, California just south of Los Angeles. I’m interested in many nerdly things such as most internet-dependent technologies, molecular biology, as well as cryptography and puzzles.

By Day

I am a senior graduate student in the department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at UC - Irvine. My work focuses on an oncogenic retrovirus which causes lung cancer in sheep and goats. It’s called “Jaagsiekte” and translates roughly to mean “chasing sickness.” Yes, it is obscure. (Really though, what was the last Afrikaans word you read today? I bet ‘Jaagsiekte’ was the first.) I am primarily concerned with modeling certain novel features of the virus within small animals.

After Hours

I’ve been a lifelong soccer player for as long as I can remember. Its the one activity I’d drop everything for if I could somehow get paid to play (an opportunity not even remotely possible). I’ve participated in high-school teams, college and graduate intra-murals, as well as some club organizations.

Occasionally, I practice Yoga. You would think this would be a relaxing activity, but for me it is not. I am a furious, hateful brute when goaded into holding an asana. It’s when the yoga session over, the point of time longest to the next session, that I really savor.
